I know there is no lack of criticism for Google swallowing up everything in the tech world, but most of their major purchases have paid off. Youtube has blossomed into the largest video aggregation site ever, and is one of the biggest standalone search engines in its own right. DoubleClick is still the industry standard if simple Google Analytics don't analyze website metrics and manage advertising campaigns to the degree you need. Google's recent acquisition of Motorola is huge, but given their past successes, Google has a very strong chance at succeeding in the burgeoning mobile market as well.
